Macron announced the arrest of a tanker leaving Russia

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the French Navy intercepted an oil tanker that had left Russia in the Mediterranean Sea.

According to the president, sanctions have been applied to the detained tanker, which allegedly raised a false flag. The operation was carried out in the neutral waters of the Mediterranean Sea. It happened "with the help of France's allies", Macron said. Later it turned out that the detention took place in cooperation with Great Britain. According to the data of the Maritime Prefecture of the Mediterranean Sea, France detained a tanker named "Grinch". It left from Murmansk. Neither the agency nor the General Staff of the French Armed Forces could confirm the identity of the tanker's flag. It is also not known whether there were Russian citizens on board.

The French authorities did not inform the Russian embassy in Paris about the detention of the tanker leaving from Murmansk. Macron referred to the fact that these actions correspond to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
