A Munich court has set a conditional term of one year and two months for Axel Fischer, a former member of the Bundestag from the Christian Democratic Union party. The court banned Fisher from being elected to public positions for two years, and also ordered him to pay 12,000 euros to the crime victim support organization.
Fisher and his lawyer denied the charges before the verdict, insisting that there was no illegal relationship between the politician and representatives of Azerbaijan.
The politician worked in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in 2010-2018.
