The Russian Foreign Ministry has called to ease the situation in Tehran

Moscow is in contact with Tehran regarding the developing situation in Iran and calls for de-escalation, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

Protests in Iran began at the end of December 2025 due to the devaluation of the national currency. On January 8, after calls by Reza Pahlavi, the son of the deposed Shah of Iran, protests turned into riots and were accompanied by chants against Iran's political system.

On the same day, the Internet was shut down in the country, casualties were reported among protesters and law enforcement agencies. Tehran regained control of the situation on January 12.
