In an interview with La Vanguardia newspaper, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated that the possible US invasion of Greenland "will make Vladimir Putin the happiest man in the world."

According to Sanchez, any US military action against this large Danish-owned arctic island "will harm NATO and legitimize Russia's invasion of Ukraine."

"If we focus on Greenland, I must say that the US invasion of that territory would make Putin the happiest man in the world. Why? Because it will legitimize his invasion of Ukraine. If the United States uses force, it will be the death knell for NATO. Putin will be doubly happy," Sanchez said.

Earlier, President Trump announced that a 10% tariff on goods imported from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Finland will take effect on February 1, but may increase to 25% later. It will work until a deal is concluded on Greenland. Trump claims that the autonomous territory of Denmark is of crucial importance for US security and has not ruled out seizing the currency.
