EU plans to double spending on Greenland

The EU plans to double its spending on Greenland by allocating 530 million euros over seven years starting in 2028, EU President Ursula von der Leyen said in an interview with several European media outlets.

"In our draft budget (for 2028-2034), we have doubled funding to approximately 530 million, which shows our commitment to partnership and the importance of security in the Arctic," von der Leyen was quoted as saying by the Italian Corriere della Sera newspaper.

The publication notes that Washington is ready to spend up to six billion dollars "to convince the Greenlanders".

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that Greenland should become part of the United States.
