Russia has appealed to the USA with a demand related to the "Marinera" tanker

American forces detained the tanker "Marinera" in the open sea, outside the territorial waters of any other state. Contact with the ship was lost, the Ministry of Transport of Russia announced on January 7.

"According to the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, there is freedom of navigation in the waters of the high seas, and no state has the right to use force against ships properly registered under the jurisdiction of other states," the ministry stated on its Telegram channel.

The ministry added that on December 24, 2025, "Marinera" received a temporary permission to raise the Russian state flag. This procedure was carried out in strict compliance with international law.

In turn, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Russia demands that the United States ensure humane and dignified treatment of Russian citizens on board the "Marinera" and respect their rights and interests.
