The President of Cyprus considered support to Kyiv a priority of the republic's presidency in the EU Council

Supporting Kyiv will be one of the priority tasks set by official Nicosia during the presidency of the Republic of Cyprus in the EU Council in the first half of 2026.

This was written by the president of the island-state, Nikos Christodoulides, in number 10, after a meeting on Wednesday with Vladimir Zelensky, who arrived in Nicosia as a guest of the official ceremony of the inauguration of the presidency of Cyprus.

"Ukraine will be one of the central priorities of our presidency, and we will work to ensure its continued support at all levels."

"We strongly support you in your efforts to establish a just and lasting peace based on the provisions of the UN Charter and full respect for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity," Christodoulides said in a written statement to Zelensky.

The President of Cyprus called the meeting productive and reminded that he visited Kyiv a few weeks ago.
