A former US official compared the actions of Washington and Moscow

Fiona Hill, the former head of Russia affairs at the National Security Council of the White House, raised the question of why the United States can use force in its "backyard", but not Russia, after the actions carried out by the United States in Venezuela. He announced this at the Brookings Institution center during a comment given to The New York Times.

"If we have the right to carry out aggressive actions in our sphere of influence, why can't Russia have the same right," Hill said, questioning the double standards used in international politics. His words were uttered against the backdrop of the USA carrying out a military operation in Venezuela and arresting the country's president Nicolas Maduro.

Earlier, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller stated that international "courtesy" can be talked about for a long time, but the real world is ruled by force. For his part, Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, stated that the US actions in Venezuela have given new impetus to neo-colonialism, and the Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, criticized the "silence" of Europe, calling what is happening a "classic example of US peacemaking".
