Switzerland's Federal Council has ordered the freezing of all assets of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his associates, the government said in a statement.
"On January 5, 2026, the Federal Council decided to immediately freeze all assets of Nicolás Maduro and others associated with him in Switzerland. The goal of the Federal Council is to prevent the transfer of assets abroad," the government's press release said.
On January 3, the United States launched a full-scale attack on Venezuela, capturing President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, and transporting them to New York.
US President Donald Trump has announced that Maduro and Flores will be tried on charges of participating in "narco-terrorism" and posing a threat to the United States.
Caracas demanded an emergency meeting of the United Nations in connection with the US operation, and the Supreme Court of Venezuela temporarily assigned the duties of the head of state to Vice President Delsy Rodriguez.
