The Prime Minister of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, considers the US's "repeated rhetoric" towards the island to be disrespectful and unacceptable. He called on Washington to stop pressure, insinuations and "fantasies of capture".
"We have been a close and loyal friend of the United States for generations, standing shoulder to shoulder in difficult times," he wrote on Facebook.
"This is why the repeated rhetoric of the United States is absolutely unacceptable. "When the US president talks about wanting Greenland and links us to Venezuela and military intervention, it's not only wrong, it's disrespectful."
Nielsen emphasized that the island is "not an object of rhetoric of great powers", but a people and a democracy that should be respected, especially by close friends.
"Threats, pressures and talk of annexation are unacceptable between friends. This is not a way to talk to the people who have repeatedly shown responsibility, stability and loyalty," the island's prime minister also wrote.
