In the "25 Years of Independence" hydrocarbon field in the southern Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan, which is one of the largest in the country, a liquid containing oil has leaked. Work is underway to eliminate the consequences, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of the country announced on Monday.
"In the M-25 oil field in Boisun region, a leak of oil-containing fluid (petroleum fluid) to the surface was detected," the Ministry of Energy said in a statement posted on the Telegram channel.
According to the agency, the situation is currently under constant monitoring and the oil spill has been localized.
The collected oil liquid is transported to a special area where there are two isolated sludge basins with a capacity of 5000 cubic meters each.
"Analytical studies of petroleum liquid samples are in progress. Based on these results, development options will be studied, and geological studies are ongoing," the press service added.
