The Swiss government, in cooperation with the churches, plans to declare January 9 a national day of mourning in memory of the victims of the fire that broke out in a bar in Crans-Montana on New Year's Eve. Swiss President Guy Parmelin said this in an interview with SonntagsBlick newspaper on Sunday.
On Friday, at 14:00 local time, all church bells in Switzerland will ring as a sign of national solidarity. According to Parmelin, a moment of silence will also be announced at that time.
"At this moment of reflection, the entire people of Switzerland can personally honor the memory of the victims of the disaster," he said.
A moment of silence and the ringing of church bells will take place in Crans-Montana in parallel with the funeral service. The official commemoration ceremony for the victims of the fire is planned for January 9, reports the website of the municipality.
The President of Switzerland will participate in the ceremony together with the ministers of the government.
