Doctor of political sciences, historian Armen Ayvazyan writes on his Facebook page.
"And so, the US president who came to power with the agenda of establishing world peace and ending American wars Trump started a new war, this time against Venezuela. So far, the actual extent of the land invasion is not clear. airstrikes were carried out in the direction of the capital Caracas and a number of military bases.
But regardless, this is a war. And although this war is going on about 11 thousand kilometers away from Armenia, it can still have direct consequences for our region and for us.
First, in this war, regardless of whether it will be short or long, the US will have to spend, or rather waste, huge resources. Not only the Venezuelan armed forces and a large part of the people will resist, but almost all of Latin America will condemn the American invasion, except perhaps Argentina and one or two small states.
The last time the USA invaded the territory of the Latin American country was in Panama in 1989. Even so, in Central and South America, Americans are widely perceived as colonialists, and this invasion will give new momentum to anti-American sentiments.
Although I consider it unlikely that the US will dare to carry out a large-scale ground invasion, tens of thousands of volunteers from Latin American countries can join the Venezuelan resistance if necessary. The US will not be able to control Venezuela's enormous oil reserves and exploit them under one name or another, which is the very purpose of this war and the removal of the left-wing president Nicolás Maduro.
China and Russia, which have close economic, political and military ties with Venezuela, will strongly condemn Washington's new war and will support Caracas and Maduro personally in the international arena.
At the same time, Trump's position will also weaken inside the USA, because influential political and social forces will be against dragging the country into another war. American society is tired of wars.
In any case, Venezuela will turn into another stage of futile waste of US military, financial, economic and other resources. As a result, Washington's attention will move further away from Europe, Ukraine and even more so from the South Caucasus.
What has been said also means that at least the next large-scale attack expected against Iran in the coming months will be almost impossible. And Israel alone is not capable of unleashing a wide war against Iran. In terms of foreign policy, Iran's positions will stabilize significantly, which is completely beneficial to Armenia, because today Iran acts as the main guarantor of the security of Syunik, if not the whole of Armenia.
At the same time, this war of adventure by Trump shows that the international political system has really completely left the legal and political boundaries. International law has been greatly devalued, and the use of force has become a decisive factor.
The president of fascist Azerbaijan openly spoke about it many times before, directly threatening Armenia. As the military operations between Thailand and Cambodia also showed, Trump's "peace agreements" and verbal security guarantees have no practical value and are simply ridiculous. In such external conditions, Armenia is obliged to urgently and dramatically increase the level of its defense capabilities. Meanwhile, the capitulation path adopted by the Pashinyan junta is taking the country in the opposite direction, to the consistent reduction of resistance and defense capability, and in fact to zero.
Additional conclusions, I think, are unnecessary," Ayvazyan wrote.
