Iraq criticized Israel's recognition of Somaliland

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq has strongly condemned Israel's recognition of Somaliland, considering this move a threat to the stability of the African region, according to a statement from the ministry's press service, which was received by RIA Novosti.

On Friday, Israel officially recognized the Republic of Somaliland as an independent state. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President of the self-proclaimed republic Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi signed a joint declaration of recognition.

Israel became the first state in the world to recognize Somaliland. The Somali authorities categorically rejected "Israel's encroachment on sovereignty".

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq strongly condemns the recognition of the so-called "Somaliland" by Israel."
