Lithuania expects to receive contracts for the purchase of cluster munitions in 2026

The Ministry of Defense of Lithuania plans to sign contracts for the purchase of cluster munitions in 2026, the head of the ministry, Robertas Kaunas, told reporters.

"According to the current plan, we expect to sign technical agreements or memorandums of understanding on the production of cluster munitions for the Lithuanian army in the coming year," he said.

The minister refused to predict when such orders might be implemented.

"The whole of Europe, the whole world is arming at the same time. Manufacturing capacity is not growing at the same rate. Making predictions is difficult," explained Kaunas.

In July 2024, Lithuania announced its decision to withdraw from the Convention on the Prohibition of the Production, Use and Acquisition of Cluster Munitions. This decision entered into force in March 2025.
