US Louisiana entrepreneur Graham Walker sold his Fibrebond company and gave all employees a total of $240 million in bonuses, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Walker stated that he would agree to sell the company only to an investor who would donate 15 percent of the proceeds to new employees. Fibrebond employees did not own shares in the company and were not legally entitled to any bonuses, so in this move Walker gave them a parting gift.

The funds were distributed among 540 full-time employees. On average, each employee will receive approximately $443,000, with the amount of the bonus depending on their length of service. Bonuses will be distributed over five years.

Fibrebond employees said that they will remember the entrepreneur as Santa Claus. At first, many thought the news of the payments was a joke, but in July they received the envelopes containing the first transfers. According to the workers, these measures have significantly changed their lives. some have paid off their mortgages, bought a car, paid for education or the relocation of their relatives. Others decided to save for the future.
