Western countries use sanctions to maintain their lost global influence. This was announced by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lenta reports.
"Unilateral means of coercion serve as one of the main tools of the collective West's neo-colonial policy. Its goal is obvious: to maintain the elusive hegemony, to deprive the majority countries of the world of the right to make independent political choices, to slow down their economic, technological and industrial development," said the representative.
The diplomat emphasized that attempts to present such measures as "peaceful resolution of disputes" do not stand up to criticism. He noted that the sanctions harm the socio-economic development of the countries of the south and east, especially affecting the most vulnerable sections of the population, and hinder the settlement of crisis situations in the world.
