Azerbaijan has agreed to send peacekeeping forces to the Gaza Strip. Mike Waltz

US Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, issued a statement stating that Azerbaijan has agreed to be a participant in the international peacekeeping forces in the Gaza Strip.

The diplomat reminded that the US President Donald Trump's peace plan envisages the creation of International Stabilization Forces. Waltz noted that it would be undesirable for those forces to be American troops, and the return of Israeli troops would mean a large-scale war and a failure to normalize relations.

However, it should be noted that the previous day, the assistant to the president of Azerbaijan and the head of the foreign policy department of the president's office, Hikmet Hajiyev, said that the United States appealed to Azerbaijan, proposing to include the Azerbaijani troops in the "International Stabilization Forces".

"The final decision has not been made yet," Hajiyev said.
