Washington intends to tighten the sanctions against Venezuela as much as possible, said Michael Waltz, the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
"The United States will apply sanctions to the maximum extent possible to deprive Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro of the resources he uses to finance the "Cartel of the Suns" and the "Aragua Train", he said at the UN Security Council meeting, noting that "we are also talking about the profits from the sale of oil, which go to finance the cartels".
The United States accuses the Venezuelan authorities of not being proactive enough in the fight against illegal drug trafficking. The White House declared the President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, the leader of the non-existent "Cartel of the Suns".
