French President Emmanuel Macron expressed support for Greenland and Denmark on Tuesday after the US appointed a special ambassador to the island.
US President Donald Trump on Monday announced the appointment of Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as a special ambassador for Greenland issues.
Later, the governor confirmed the intention of the United States to make the island part of its territory. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løcke Rasmussen stressed on Monday that he is deeply upset by the statements of the new US special representative and will call the US ambassador in Copenhagen to demand an explanation.
The prime ministers of Denmark and Greenland, Mette Frederiksen and Jens-Frederik Nielsen, issued a joint statement warning America against the island's seizure, saying they expect respect for their shared territorial integrity.
