Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, who has been appointed US special envoy for Greenland, will seek to annex the autonomous region of Denmark to the United States.
"I am honored to serve in this volunteer capacity to help make Greenland part of the United States," he wrote in X. Landry added that the new duties "will in no way affect" his work as governor.
On Sunday, Trump wrote on Truth Social that he appointed Landry as the US Special Envoy for Greenland. According to the American leader, the governor "understands that Greenland is vital to national security and will vigorously defend US interests in its security."
On March 13, Trump expressed confidence that his country will occupy Greenland, the autonomous territory of Denmark. On March 4, he said he would approve the island's annexation to the United States.
