There is no clear date for the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border for citizens of third countries. This is evidenced by the statement of the RA Foreign Ministry in response to the official inquiry of Sputnik Armenia.
Earlier, "Bloomberg" agency, citing sources, reported that Turkey is considering the possibility of opening the land border with Armenia in the next six months. At the same time, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Ankara is ready to take "symbolic steps" in the process of normalizing relations with Yerevan in 2026.
Sputnik Armenia sent a request to the RA Prime Minister's staff, asking them to assess the current stage of Armenian-Turkish relations, to specify the possible dates of the opening of the border, the first checkpoint, as well as the expected economic effect. In addition, we were interested in whether preparations are being made for the possible visit of the Turkish president to Armenia.
In response, the Foreign Ministry stated that there were a number of public references to the mentioned questions, pointing to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's speech on December 9, the OSCE ministerial meeting and "Orbel. Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan's speeches during the international conference on building peace and multilateral cooperation.
The agency suggested considering the possible visit of the Turkish President and participation in the European Political Community Summit in May 2026 in the context of the Prime Minister's speech on November 4, as well as the answers given by the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the National Assembly on October 27.
