Beijing has responded to Japan's concerns about China's growing defense budget

Japan has no right to criticize China for increasing its defense budget, said Guo Jiakun, spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, during a briefing, RIA Novosti reports. "Japan, as a country with a serious history of aggression, has no right to make irresponsible statements," the diplomat emphasized.

He noted that "Japan's baseless accusations and malicious slanders against the legitimate development of China's national defense are shameful and condemnable," Guo Jiakun said. He commented on Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi's statement that China's military spending has increased sevenfold in 20 years.
