South Africa insists on full participation in the Group of Twenty (G20) under the current US presidency and will not call for a boycott of the G20, said Vincent Magwenya, the spokesperson of the President of the Republic of South Africa.
"We insist on receiving an invitation from the United States G20 presidency to all G20 meetings based on the fact that South Africa is one of the founding countries of the G20," he said at a briefing in Pretoria.
"We are currently consulting with all G20 countries and expect them to openly express their support for us and respond accordingly to the US decision to suspend South Africa's membership in the G20." We are striving for consensus on this matter.
Magwenya emphasized that the United States challenged the G20 by banning South Africa from participating in its work for the next 12 months. "Nevertheless, under the current conditions, we will not boycott the G20," said the spokesperson of the President of the Republic of South Africa.
