Turkey could hold snap presidential elections at the most unexpected time amid economic woes and legal proceedings against the opposition, but the current government aims to hold elections in late 2027, according to Turkish T24 newspaper columnist Murat Sabuncu.
The pro-government "Turkiye" newspaper reported that proposals for the draft of the new constitution will be presented to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Erdogan has repeatedly emphasized that Turkey needs a new basic law, which will be the basis for the further development of the state.
Work on the project continues. At the same time, the opposition Jumhuriet newspaper noted that the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) is considering the possibility of holding early presidential elections if the country's new constitution is successfully adopted.
