According to the new law, Belarus will consider aggression against the CSTO countries as a military threat against it

Amendments were made to the list of military threats to Belarus, including a clause that equates an "act of armed aggression" against a member state of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) with a military threat to the republic. The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, signed the relevant law, Kommersant reports.

Amendments were made to the legislation on military security and defense, and the document was published on the national legal portal.

The law stipulates that the armed defense of Belarus can be carried out by the armed forces both independently and jointly with the allied countries of the republic.

The tasks of the armed forces included preparation to eliminate the crisis situations that "are capable of leading to the unleashing of armed conflicts" in Belarus or on the territory of allied countries. It is also planned to improve the air defense system "as a unified combat defense system of the Union State".

In November, Mr. Lukashenko said that military risks and threats are increasing in the CSTO's western wing. In his opinion, "the situation in Belarus is like a besieged castle". In December, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly adopted a law on the joint fight against terrorism.
