Steven Wittkopf, the special envoy of the US president, will meet with European leaders and Vladimir Zelensky this weekend in Berlin, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports, citing its sources.
According to their information, he will meet with the negotiators of Great Britain, Germany and France on December 14-15. The decision to send Wittkoff to Berlin shows the desire of the US administration to overcome the differences between Washington and Kiev regarding the terms of the peace agreement, the newspaper believes.
WSJ writes that French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz will participate in the negotiations in Berlin, as well as their advisers.
Trump previously stated that the US will send a representative to the meeting in Europe only if Washington understands that these negotiations will be effective.
