Washington Times. Underground nuclear testing may be allowed in the US

The defense budget bill for fiscal year 2026 (which began on October 1) passed by the US House of Representatives allows the US administration to conduct underground nuclear tests, The Washington Times reported on Thursday.

As the publication notes, the corresponding American moratorium will be canceled in connection with six underground nuclear tests conducted by the DPRK in 2006-2017.

However, the budget text maintains the prohibition of other types of nuclear tests by the United States. After approval by the Senate, the document will be sent to President Donald Trump for his signature.

The American leader announced the decision to resume nuclear tests on October 29. However, neither he nor other US administration officials clarified whether this included testing of explosives.
