The 15th century Gospel kept in Taperakan was stolen

Unknown persons stole a 15th century Gospel kept in the Taperakan community of Ararat Marz. This was announced by the Directorate of Matenadaran, expressing deep concern for what happened.

"This fact makes it imperative to address the problem of the presence of manuscripts in the residences of private individuals and church institutions of the community without proper security system and storage conditions. The directorate of the Matenadaran has declared its readiness on all possible occasions, if not to accept donations, then to take these books for temporary storage.

We hereby reaffirm our commitment and are ready to put the material and professional capabilities of the Matenadaran at the service of the proper preservation of manuscript books of private or community ownership. We guarantee that all records will enter the Matenadaran's repository according to a pre-signed temporary custody agreement, in which the owner's rights and obligations of the Matenadaran will be recorded.

It is sad that along with Matenadaran's "Repatriation of Books" campaign, thanks to which our spiritual values are returned to Armenia from various auctions and private collections around the world, samples of spiritual history are being looted and disappearing in our own country. Cooperation with Matenadaran in this area is an indicator of civic maturity and responsibility."
