The resumption of negotiations with Israel in Ras an-Nakura reflects Lebanon's desire to stop Israel's attacks on its territory. This was stated by the President of the Republic Joseph Aoun, who received Jean-Yves Le Drian, the special representative of the French President on Lebanese settlement issues, in Beirut on December 8.
"We are guided by the need to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict and categorically do not want to resort to the language of war.
A positive response to this position of Lebanon by fraternal and friendly countries means support for the step we have taken and will probably reduce military pressure," the politician emphasized, as quoted by the president's press service. Aoun noted that the second round of Lebanese-Israeli negotiations will take place on December 19 in Ras an-Nakura, at the headquarters of the UN Interim Forces in Lebanon.
