The head of the European Commission has proposed that EU countries give Ukraine between 0.16% and 0.27% of their GDP in 2026-2027, which amounts to at least 45 billion euros a year, according to a letter to EU leaders published by Politico.
"In order to provide grant aid, member states need an annual support volume of at least 45 billion euros, that is, at least 90 billion euros for 2026-2027. This estimate is based on the assumption that the war will end in 2026 and that other countries will help finance the remaining needs. The corresponding burden on the member states, based on their share of the gross national income, will be between 0.16% and 0.27% of GDP per year," the document states.
