In Masis, the opposition did not let go of power. After Davit Hambardzumyan's arrest today, on November 17, at an extraordinary meeting of the council of elders, Norayr Hakobyan, a member of the "David Hambardzumyan Alliance" faction, who held the position of the first deputy head of the community, was elected as the head of the community. The entire composition of the Council of Elders of the "KP" faction was absent from the session and did not have a nominated candidate.
All 14 members of the "Davit Hambardzumyan" bloc and one independent member of the Council of Elders voted in favor of Norayr Hakobyan. Former community head Davit Hambardzumyan was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison by the verdict of the Yerevan Criminal Court on October 23. At the time of the publication of the decision, he was on a business visit in Moscow and was arrested upon his return to Armenia, right when he got off the plane.
On October 28, Davit Hambardzumyan from the Nubarashen Penitentiary, in his first message, resigned from the mandate of the Masis Council of Elders and announced the termination of his powers, and on November 15, in his second message, he called to remain persistent and believe in the end point.
"No situation can cut a person's connection with his path, his roots and his goal. Man loses power only when he renounces himself. And I have nothing to refuse. My faith, my path, my principles have been formed by years, trials and responsibility towards people, which I have never shied away from," wrote Davit Hambardzumyan, head of the Masisi community, from Nubarashen CC.
