Google has again come under fire with accusations of violating user privacy. The company's Gemini AI assistant, which powers Gmail, Chat and Meet services, has been accused of secretly accessing millions of people's private messages and files.
According to the lawsuit, Google has turned on Gemini by default for all users since October, before people could turn the feature on themselves. This action allowed the AI to "observe" sensitive communications - emails, messages and video calls - without users' consent.
The plaintiffs allege that Google secretly collected data and misled people into thinking communications were secure. According to the document, this could violate privacy laws and lead to widespread class-action lawsuits and possible monetary damages.
