A magnitude 5.3 aftershock was reported off the coast of Japan

A 5.3-magnitude earthquake occurred near Iwate prefecture in Japan. The aftershocks were recorded 24 hours after the powerful earthquake that occurred the previous day.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the tremors were recorded at 12:00 local time (6:00 Moscow time). The epicenter of the earthquake was located under water at a depth of 10 kilometers.

No tsunami threat has been declared. Earlier, the Japan Meteorological Agency did not rule out the possibility of strong aftershocks after the powerful earthquake that occurred the previous day.

A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Iwate Prefecture in northwestern Japan on Sunday afternoon, November 9. The magnitude was later downgraded to 6.7. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers under water.

The maximum magnitude of the tremors was 4.0. Light tremors were also felt in Tokyo. A tidal wave of 10-20 centimeters was then reported along the northwest coast.

There were no reports of casualties or destruction, and there were no reports of disruptions in the operation of the nuclear power plants located in the region.
