NATO's anti-submarine combat exercises have started in the Baltic Sea

NATO's anti-submarine warfare exercises led by the Swedish Navy begin in the Baltic Sea and will continue until November 14.

Exercises named "Merlin" will take place off the coast of Sweden and in its territorial waters. As previously reported by the Swedish Armed Forces, Sweden is conducting the exercise to share its experience in anti-submarine warfare with NATO.

Sweden's rugged seabed provides many hiding places for submarines, but it requires technology and skill, the military says.

According to the Swedish Armed Forces, the navy has developed anti-submarine warfare capabilities adapted to the difficult conditions on the bottom of the Baltic Sea.

Ships of NATO's Standing Sea Group 1 (SNMG1), Swedish corvettes, frigates, support ships, submarines and helicopters of the Swedish and German navies will take part in the exercise.
