The European Commission has announced restrictions on the issuance of multiple-entry Schengen visas to Russian citizens, according to a public statement.
"From now on, Russian citizens will no longer be able to get multiple entry visas. This means that Russian citizens will have to apply for a new visa each time they plan to travel to the EU, allowing for thorough and frequent screening of applicants to mitigate any potential security risks.
In September 2022, the EU completely suspended the simplified visa regime with Russia. This meant higher consular fees and longer processing times for visas.
The European Commission reported on Thursday that while nearly 4 million Russians visited the EU in 2019, that number will drop to just over 550,000 in 2024.
