YouTube has begun deleting Windows installation tutorials en masse

YouTube's artificial intelligence-based moderation system has begun removing videos that contain instructions for installing Windows 11 on unsupported computers or using a local account. The platform classifies such materials as "content harmful to health or life," reports The Register.

YouTube blogger Rich White of the CyberCPU Tech channel was the first to report the issue. He reported that his guide on installing Windows 11 25H2 without the necessary Microsoft account permission was removed from the platform on October 25. In the notice, YouTube stated that the content violates its policy on harmful and dangerous activity.

White appealed the decision, but the appeal was dismissed within 10-20 minutes. He believes the decision was made automatically without human intervention. A similar situation arose the next day, when a blogger published a video about installing Windows 11 on unsupported devices. the video was removed again a few hours later. The appeal was rejected within a minute.

Other creators have voiced similar complaints, including Britec09 and Hrutkay Mods. They argued that YouTube was mass-deleting educational materials related to bypassing Windows system restrictions and that it was impossible to appeal moderation actions.

Bloggers do not rule out the possibility that the videos were removed due to an error in artificial intelligence algorithms. However, White suggested that Microsoft could influence YouTube's decision. Microsoft and Google have not commented on the issue.
