Zohran Mamdani, a 34-year-old Muslim socialist, won the New York City mayoral election with 50.35 percent of the vote in preliminary unofficial results, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

Mamdani announced his victory in the New York mayoral race after his rival, former New York governor Andrew Cuomo, "surprisingly accepted his defeat."
It should be noted that 34-year-old Mamdani will become the youngest mayor of the city in the last 100 years, as well as the first Muslim to hold that position.
