"In the last few months, as a result of the church-state conflict, there were many victims, but only the clergy are still responsible. And it is against this background that the brother of the Catholicos of All Armenians, 68-year-old Gevorg Nersisyan, and the latter's son, Hambardzum Nersisyan, were detained for 1 month. Although many claimed that all this was a lie, Arman Babakhanyan, the judge investigating the case of the shootings that took place in Parakar 7 months ago, made a decision to arrest them.
With the participation of the President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan and the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, in April 2025, a decree was signed at the presidential residence appointing Arman Babakhanyan as a judge of the Court of First Instance of Armavir Region. Before occupying this position, Babakhanyan worked at the Court of Cassation as an assistant judge, and in 2024 he submitted a declaration in that working capacity.
There is no immovable property or vehicle in the declaration submitted as a judge's assistant. Instead of these, Babakhanyan has an apartment in Yerevan that he does not own, but which he has been using for more than 90 days. On the same principle, he uses two cars: HYUNDAI and MERCEDES-BENZ.
The balance of the judge's bank accounts in the reporting year of 2024 was very modest: 377 thousand drams, the cash funds were 1.5 thousand dollars. The revenues of the reporting period amounted to 4 million 538 thousand drams, of which 4 million 247 thousand drams are wages from the Judicial Department, and 290 thousand drams from Yerevan State University.
