The US administration has discovered facilities allegedly used for drug smuggling in Venezuela, and they may become the target of airstrikes, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported, citing US officials.
According to the Wall Street Journal, US President Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision on the attack. Possible airstrikes could include ports and airports that are "controlled by the military," the newspaper said.
According to the publication, Trump thus "makes it clear to Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro that it's time to resign." "President Trump sent a clear message to Maduro: stop sending drugs and criminals to our country."
"The president is ready to use all elements of the US armed forces to prevent the flow of drugs," the newspaper quoted White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly as saying.
The WSJ notes that US officials, without providing evidence, have called Venezuela a "central hub of terrorist activity."
