Warsaw is postponing the decision on the opening of checkpoints on the border with Belarus, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene told reporters.
"During a telephone conversation, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that he is postponing the decision on checkpoints. We continue to coordinate our actions," he said.
Lithuania on Wednesday completely closed its road border with Belarus for a month and asked the European Commission to impose sanctions on Minsk over what Vilnius sees as its failure to curb smuggling.
This month, Vilnius International Airport was closed four times and Kaunas International Airport once due to incidents involving balloons containing contraband tobacco products.
At the "Unity and Border Development Forum" held in Bialystok on October 28, Tusk announced that the Polish authorities are ready to open two more border checkpoints with Belarus in November, in Bobruniki and Kuznica.
