Figaro: The Minister of Justice of France visited Sarkozy in prison

French Minister of Justice Géral Darmanen visited the Sainte prison in Paris, where he met former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who is serving a sentence for financing the election campaign, Le Figaro reports.

Their meeting took place on Wednesday evening in the presence of the head of the prison and lasted about 45 minutes. One of the main topics was the former president's security measures. Darmanen also talked with the prison staff for about an hour.

Earlier, the deputies of the "Disobedient France" party, Hugo Bernalisis and Daniel Obono, visited the prison to investigate the alleged "special treatment" of Sarkozy.

According to Europe 1 radio, the MPs exercised their parliamentary right to visit detention centers without warning and at any time. Despite that, the prison administration categorically refused to let them enter Sarkozy's cell.

The 70-year-old former French president, who served from 2007 to 2012, was found guilty on September 25 of collaborating with a criminal group in the financing of the Libyan campaign, but was acquitted of charges of concealing the embezzlement of state funds and passive corruption.
