Mary Lawlor, the UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, responded to the KIA report on the illegal detention and criminal prosecution of lawyer and human rights defender Alexander Kochubaev.


"I welcome the release of Armenian lawyer and human rights defender Alexander Kochubaev from pre-trial detention, but I strongly condemn the criminal charges brought against him and call on the Armenian authorities to stop them immediately. Mr. Kochubaev was prosecuted for criticizing the unjust persecution of the clergy of the Armenian Apostolic Church, which led the peaceful protests of 2024," he wrote.
