UNRWA cannot enter Gaza to deliver food

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has enough food to meet the needs of the population of the Gaza Strip for two to three months, but it has not yet been allowed to enter the enclave, UNRWA High Commissioner Philippe Lazzarini said.

"The World Food Program and UNICEF, among other organizations, managed to deliver trucks to Gaza," he said in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El País. "The cease-fire agreement called for at least 600 trucks per day, but my colleagues tell me that we are delivering significantly less than the agreed number."

They are talking about 200, which is not enough to overcome the current challenges. "UNRWA supplies are still outside Gaza," Lazarini added. "We have enough food to meet the needs of the population for the next two or three months."

"In addition, we have such supplies as tents and desalination systems," the head of the agency emphasized.
