North Korea launched a ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan, the South Korean Renhap news agency reported, citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of the Republic of Korea.
"North Korea launched at least one unidentified ballistic missile in the direction of the Sea of Japan (East Sea)," the statement said.
According to the agency, this launch was the first since South Korean President Lee Jae-myung's government took office in June.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi later announced that there was no information about the missile landing in the country's territorial waters or exclusive economic zone.
