Sarkozy started writing a book in prison

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who served from 2007 to 2012, started writing a book on his first day in prison, his lawyer Jean-Michel Daroy said. TASS reports.

"He exercised and started writing his book," BFMTV quoted the ex-president's lawyer as saying. He said that the former head of state is in a cell of 9 square meters. "There is constant noise," Daroi said.

The lawyer added that Sarkozy met his wife Carla Bruni in the afternoon. "The first day in prison was terrible, but he endured it," said the lawyer.

A Paris court sentenced 70-year-old Sarkozy to five years in prison on September 25 in connection with the Libyan financing of his 2007 election campaign. On October 21, he began serving his sentence in solitary confinement at Sante prison in Paris.
