Spiegel: Germany will buy 15 more F-35 fighter jets from the US

Germany plans to buy 15 more F-35 fighter jets from the United States for approximately 2.5 billion euros, Der Spiegel magazine reported, citing documents.

The Bundeswehr Air Force already operates 35 aircraft of this model, but Berlin insists it needs to expand its fleet to meet new NATO requirements for NATO air forces.

On October 8, the budget committee of the Bundestag approved several procurement projects of the Ministry of Defense worth more than 7 billion euros. In particular, the transaction referred to the purchase of Eurofighter fighters worth 3.75 billion euros. Deliveries are expected between 2031-2034. The number of fighter jets to be purchased was not specified, but Der Spiegel reported that it is about 20 planes.
