Unknown persons robbed the Louvre museum in Paris. This was announced by French Culture Minister Rashida Dati on October 19. According to him, the emergency happened during the morning opening.
"There are no victims. I am on the spot with the museum staff and the police. An investigation is being conducted," Dati said.
The minister announced that the Louvre jewels were stolen by professionals. They only spent a few minutes on the whole operation.
Dati drew attention to the fact that the issue of museum security in France is a long-standing problem. "For 40 years, proper attention has not been paid to that issue," he emphasized.
The criminals stole 9 jewels from the collection of Empress Josephine, the wife of Emperor Napoleon I.
Parisien newspaper later reported that 2 pieces of jewelry, including Empress Eugénie de Montijo's crown, which had been damaged and left at the scene, had been recovered and returned to the museum.
