The death toll from floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains in central and eastern Mexico has risen to 72, the government said.
"The death toll is 72, 48 are still missing," said an updated message posted on the Mexican government's website.
According to Laura Velasquez, director of the Department of Civil Protection, the worst damage was caused by the rains on October 8, with up to 280 millimeters in Veracruz and 286 millimeters in Puebla. Heavy rains have caused rivers to burst their banks, floods and landslides.
