Zelensky informed European leaders about his meeting with Trump

German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz, a number of other European leaders and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had a telephone conversation with Vladimir Zelensky, during which he informed them about his meeting with US President Donald Trump. Stefan Cornelius, the spokesman of the German Cabinet, told journalists about this.

"German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz, as well as heads of other European states and governments, as well as the Secretary General of NATO and heads of EU institutions, had a telephone conversation with Vladimir Zelensky this evening," Cornelius noted.

He added that Zelensky informed his European colleagues "about his constructive meeting with US President Donald Trump". "German Chancellor Merz and his colleagues welcomed this close transatlantic cooperation and emphasized the urgency of efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine," the representative of the German government noted.

According to Cornelius, European leaders "promised to extend their support to Zelensky to encourage Russia to engage in serious negotiations."

"This includes the strengthening of sanctions pressure within the framework of the 19th EU sanctions package and the use of frozen Russian state assets," the German cabinet spokesman insisted.
